When I first started teaching, there was a popular term - Just In Time Support - which meant, you got the training you needed, right when you needed it. I’ve come to appreciate that idea even more as my schedule got busier. I love using technology with my students and have always made an effort to go to any training workshops that were held after school, but that had to change when my son started school. I needed to leave right away to pick him up so I missed any professional development opportunities, but I still wanted to keep learning. I realized there was a lot on the internet I could learn from. I found blogs created by teachers sharing best practices for the latest and greatest in tech integration and I found that learning after my son went to bed was just what I needed. I spent nights exploring YouTube videos that taught me new skills that I could put to use in the class the next day with my students.
